Robert Naftaly Named Chair of the Jewish Fund; Michael Maddin Steps Up to Vice Chair

Bloomfield Hills, MI – At its 6th annual meeting on December 8th , the board of trustees
of The Jewish Fund accounced Robert H. Naftaly the new chair and Michael W. Maddin the vice chair.

Stepping down from a three-year term, and graciously acknowledging the tribute of the board, past chair David Page stated, “It’s been a great privilege to serve the mission of this remarkable Fund, which has provided $30 million in grants helping to improve the lives of thousands of people in metropolitan Detroit.”

Robert Naftaly is a retired CPA with a wide-ranging career that has spanned public accounting, government service and the health care industry. He is past president of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, where he currently chairs the Audit Committee, and is founding co-chair of Federation’s Alliance for Jewish Education. Beyond his extensive service to Federation, Mr. Naftaly chairs the State Tax Commission, co-chairs the Walsh College Foundation, and serves on the boards of AAA of Michigan, United Jewish Foundation, Walsh College, Meadowbrook Insurance, the Private Bank and the Anti Defamation League of B’nai B’rith, where he is the national treasurer.

Selected by his peers for inclusion in “The Best Lawyers in America”, Michael Maddin is the President and one of the Managing Directors of the law firm Maddin Hauser Wartell Roth & Heller PC. Mr. Maddin has been practicing law for over 37 years, all the while dedicating himself to a personal mission of community service and philanthropy. He has played an active role
in the expansion and success of numerous communal, charitable and fraternal organizations, including: the State Bar of Michigan, The United Jewish Foundation and Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, Fresh Air Society, Hillel Day School, University of Michigan Hillel, Franklin Hills Country Club, Hospice of Michigan, Machpelah Cemetery Association.

The Jewish Fund also announced the appointment of Mark Davidoff to its Board of Directors. Mr. Davidoff is a Director with Deloitte & Touche LLP. He has over 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector having spent the prior 12 years serving the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit and the United Jewish Foundation in various positions, from Chief Financial Officer through Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Davidoff served as the Treasurer and Secretary of The Jewish Fund from its inception in 1997 through the completion of his tenure at Federation in February 2005. He also serves on the Boards of the Jewish Community Center and the National Council for Community and Justice.

Re-election of the following board members also was announced: David Aronow, Selwyn Isakow, Mark Schlussel, Jerry Schostak and Gary Torgow.

The Jewish Fund was created in 1997 from proceeds of the sale of Sinai Hospital to the Detroit Medical Center and has since awarded $30 million in grants to expand health and human services to residents of metropolitan Detroit.
